Tehran center to commemorate children’s author Azar Yazdi

TEHRAN, July 6 (MNA) -- Tehran’s Golha Cultural Center will host a commemorative event for Mehdi Azar Yazdi on the occasion of his second death anniversary on July 21.

Entitled “Azar Memorial”, the ceremony will be held by the Azar Yazdi Cultural Artists Studies Foundation and Tehran Municipality office for cultural and social affairs. 

The deputy mayor for cultural and social affairs Mohammad-Hadi Ayazi and the deputy culture minister for Quranic affairs Hojjatoleslam Hamid Mohammadi will be attending. 

Azar Yazdi’s adopted son Mohammad Saburi will also narrated memories he shared with him and a documentary on Mehdi Azar Yazdi’s life that will be shown during the event. 

Azar Yazdi passed away on July 9, 2009. His “Good Stories for Good Children”, which won a UNESCO prize in 1966 and was selected as Iran’s best book of the year in 1967, remains a hot pick among children’s books in Iran. 

Born in 1921, Azar Yazdi began writing for children in 1956. He wrote seven books, each of which is adapted from a classic of Persian literature and rewritten for children in an easy-to-understand style. 

He was also author of “The Naughty Cat,” “The Playful Cat,” “Simple Stories,” “Poetry of Sugar and Honey” and “Masnavi of Good Children.” His “Adam” was chosen as Iran’s book of the year in 1968. 

The center can be found opposite Shahrvand Shop, Shahid Gomnam Highway and Kordestan Highway crossroad.
